I think theres a new autotune coming out pretty soon. I would say it really boils down to preference. And if I have any serious timing issues, i can usually mask them by streching and crossfading w/o having to use melodyne.īut like I said I havent used Autotune in a couple of years, but at least theres some info for ya.
MELODYNE VS AUTOTUNE 7 SOFTWARE
The software operates differently from the plug-ins mentioned above and is more tailored to intricate tasks, such as precise editing of the pitch, pitch deviation, vibrato and timing of individual notes. With Melodyne, you just insert Melodyne on a track. And the Melodyne plug-in has a way better integration of the non-realtime aspect of graphic pitch correction with a realtime plug-in environment. I don't edit melodies ITB unless I have to. Melodyne isn’t an obvious choice for Cher-style effects, although it can absolutely do that, too, if you push it hard enough. The plug-in (just recently released, I believe) is totally self-contained, no ReWire connections necessary. I like melodyne, but i think I would prefer autotune for what I use Tuning software for, which is basically taking care of minor pitch issues. Wich makes things sound great and is really easy. Usually I'll try to get the best Vocal take I can out of a performer, then import to melodyne and set it for 50% Pitch correction and 50% pitch drift correction. Melodyne can be used as a rewire client, but I have not done so as of yet. It has a nice "Spot to Protools" feature however, so re-importing your vocals isnt a chore. While autotune is used as a plugin, melodyne is a standalone program, which means you have to consolidate your track to one whole region before import to melodyne. I found you could achieve a tuned track that didn't sound so tuned quite easily.Įditing actual melodies and timings is a feature that melodyne has that I'm not so sure autotune does. Lots of parameters = lots of fun, but not for everyone. With Autotune, I liked the amount of control you had. I have melodyne, and used to used autotune for a while a year or two ago.
